Senior PHP Developer – Remote

Our client are a specialist professional services and technology firm, working in partnership with leading insurance, highly regulated and global businesses. They are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior PHP developer to join their team. The role is varied, and you will work on projects as diverse as creating new Claims Management Systems, continuous improvement of our existing Metrix systems and bespoke back-office systems. You will be developing in PHP on a LAMP/WAMP stack but will be utilising JavaScript and CSS skills to produce modern, professional and responsive systems. The work is performed in a relaxed environment under an “Agile” working methodology using a variety of in-house frameworks and public PHP libraries.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Utilising an extensive knowledge of object-oriented PHP from versions 7 to 8.1 to develop systems using both a LAMP/WAMP stack and Docker containers
• Writing and maintaining automated tests for all systems and shared code libraries
• Monitoring and developing CI/CD pipelines on AWS to maintain system availability and reliability
• Working to an Agile methodology
• Create modern looking user interfaces using CSS pre-processing and asset building
• Creating and optimising databases and database tables using normalisation principles
• Developing front end interactive features using JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks
• Continually developing and improving in-house codebase with an eye for scalability
• Using Git source control to keep track of code changes
• Maintaining REST APIs

The successful candidate will have the following experience:

• Minimum of 3 years in PHP web development
• Non -framework PHP development
• ·jQuery (native JavaScript desirable)
• CSS including Less/Sass
• Versioning software e.g. GIT
• MySQL database design, normalisation and query writing
